What is Semax?

Semax is a synthetic peptide based on the fragment ACTH(4-10), with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It is approved in Russia and Ukraine for various indications including neuroprotection, cognitive enhancement, and treatment of conditions such as stroke, transient ischemic attacks, and post-anesthesia memory disorders. It is known to cross the blood-brain barrier rapidly. Research suggests its mechanisms involve modulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) pathways, as well as influencing dopaminergic and serotonergic systems in the central nervous system. Semax is primarily administered intranasally in research and clinical contexts, though subcutaneous administration has also been explored.

🐾 Griffin Says...

One clinical trial showed 71% correct answers on memory tests vs 41% for controls after a single dose. That's a pretty dramatic cognitive boost in fatigued subjects. Approved in Russia for stroke and encephalopathy.

Research Indications

  • Memory Improvement

Studies indicate Semax can enhance learning and memory processes, particularly under conditions of stress or fatigue.

  • Focus and Concentration

Research suggests improvements in attention span and sustained focus, which are beneficial for complex cognitive tasks.

Due to its short half-life, more frequent administration (e.g., twice daily) is commonly discussed in research protocols to maintain consistent levels, particularly for nasal administration.

Peptide Interactions

  • Piracetam and other Racetams

May enhance the cognitive-boosting effects of Semax, particularly in memory and learning, through different mechanisms of action.

    Synergistic
  • Noopept

Often combined in research for potential additive cognitive benefits, especially for memory consolidation and neuroprotection.

    Synergistic
  • Modafinil/Armodafinil

May enhance wakefulness and focus. Monitor for overstimulation or increased anxiety due to combined stimulatory effects.

    Monitor Combination
  • Stimulants (e.g., Caffeine, Amphetamines)

Combined use may increase risk of overstimulation, anxiety, or jitteriness. Start with lower doses of each and monitor effects.

    Use Caution
  • Sedatives/Anxiolytics

Semax generally has a stimulating effect; it may counteract or alter the effects of sedatives. Monitor for unexpected responses.

How to Reconstitute

  1. 1Ensure aseptic conditions, clean hands, and sterile workspace.
  2. 2If supplied lyophilized, remove the cap from the vial of Semax and wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab.
  3. 3Using a sterile syringe, draw the appropriate amount of sterile bacteriostatic water for injection.
  4. 4Slowly inject the sterile water into the vial, aiming for the glass wall to avoid direct stream onto the peptide.
  5. 5Gently swirl the vial (do not shake vigorously) until the powder is completely dissolved. Reconstitution typically yields a clear, colorless solution.
  6. 6Store the reconstituted solution refrigerated (2-8°C) and protect from light.

What to Expect

  • Week 1: Initial improvements in focus, concentration, or cognitive clarity may be reported. Individuals might notice a subtle increase in alertness.
  • Weeks 2-4: More consistent and noticeable effects on memory retention, learning capacity, and reduced mental fatigue may become apparent.
  • Weeks 4-8: Optimal benefits are often observed, with potential for sustained cognitive enhancement and neuroprotective effects depending on the research goal.
  • Post-cycle: Benefits may persist for some time after cessation, though individual responses can vary.
  • Individual responses vary widely; some individuals may respond more strongly or quickly than others.
